What is Chrome OS?
Chrome OS is just another Desktop operating system just like windows from Microsoft or the Apple-exclusive Mac-OS but this time by Google. The Chrome OS is based on an open-source Linux kernel-based project named Chromium OS. It's almost like any other Linux-based desktop distribution out there but with google being involved, Chrome OS packs a lot of google specific features as well as great stability and a perfectly working ecosystem around google's services and software.
Before the release of 'flex', the Chrome OS experience was limited to only a few devices that are made in collaboration with google which goes by the name CHROMEBOOKS. But now, finally, google decided to make Chrome OS public and released a developer preview build of the public version of Chrome OS by the name of Chrome OS flex.
What makes Chrome OS so different?
While using Linux as a daily driver might be a bit complicated for an average user, they are left with only two options, either windows or OSX/ macOS, and out of which Most users are stuck with windows cause apple products are kinda expensive. And Windows can be very buggy in some cases while it's always heavy on RAM usage no matter how powerful your device is, And this is exactly where Chrome OS steps in. Chrome OS being a completely web-based Operating system is very lightweight while giving a very premium UI experience with Sleek and stylish looks and convenient features like three & four-finger trackpad gestures with the powerful Google assistant at the ease of your fingertips.
Its UI is very easy to use with a very convenient bottom panel that makes any windows user feel at home with an Android-like quick settings panel in the bottom right corner which makes it very easy to access the wifi and Bluetooth toggle with all the notifications right above it.

With Good looks and great User experience comes great performance with very less boot time when compared to windows. And with the seamless experience and Google's ecosystem comes the large variety of Linux software support that we can enable through settings and use every piece of software that Linux supports.
Who is it for?
It is for anyone who wants to be productive or just wants a basic device with media consumption features now the userbase can vary from a student to a working professional to a retired person who just wants to watch movies and have a good time. you might be thinking that it's not for gamers. well, this is true, but to some extent. With cloud-based gaming platforms like Nvidia play and Google stadia it's absolutely possible for Chrome OS devices to play AAA titles like GTA V or Watch-Dogs and many more, All you need is a fast internet connection.
But wait No operating system is perfect right? and just like windows and Linux Chrome OS comes with its own disadvantages, one of which is it can't support a lot of PC software yet that might be supported in windows or mac. which makes it useless for people who work with certain software like animators or graphic designers. so yea, this is a sector where chrome OS loses otherwise it's a great way to give your old PC a new life with This new Chrome OS flex.
